January 15, 2001The Governor of Punjab Lt. General (Retd.) Muhammad Safder addressed the guests at a reception held at the stately Governor House, Lahore, on the occasion of launching ceremony of ITCN Asia 2001. The event held at the stately Governor house attracted more than 300 of the top entrepreneurs and IT professionals based in Lahore.
The launch was also joined by Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Federal Minister for Science & Technology; Mr. Jeh Shyan Wong, CEO of CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG), and the representatives of Ecommerce Gateway, Singapore. CNSG and Ecommerce Gateway are collaborating with the Ministry of Science and Technology for organizing the event to be held at Karachi in March.
“Development of IT has been given a place of honour by the Government of Pakistan. A large financial allocation has been done for the purpose,” the Governor said. He also pointed out that there were more than 300 booths available and most out of them had been booked by foreign companies. He said, “This would be an excellent opportunity for the display of state of the art digital appliances, networking and software technologies at the newly built Expo Centre at Karachi.”
An important feature of ITCN Asia is the warm participation of Pakistan software companies, with most of them from Lahore. The Governor has already instructed the provincial IT Board to take active part in the conference and the exhibition in co-ordination with local IT associations. It is hoped that ITCN Asia 2001 is going to be a milestone in the IT history of the country.
