October 26, 2000Following the successful symposium in Tokyo, CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) participated in the International Symposium on Protection of Personal Information at International House, Osaka. The Osaka symposium attracted more than 300 registrants from various corporate bodies from Kansai region.
CNSG presents the development and implementation of protection of personal information framework in Singapore and neighbouring countries under the CommerceTrust project. Apart from CNSG’s CEO, Mr. Jeh Shyan Wong, other speakers at the symposium include Prof. Shizuo Fujiwara from Kokugakuin University, Ms. Barbara Wellbery from US Department of Commerce, Prof. Russell Pipe from CGI, Mr. Gary Laden from BBBOnLine Privacy Seal Program, Mr. Mitsugu Sekimoto from Secretariat of Privacy Mark System, JIPDEC.
The audience were drawn to the special attention on legislative action in Japan in the future, including reaction of various specialists to the provisional guidelines announced by the Japanese government’s Personal Information Protection Legislation Subcommittee, which is currently working toward development of a basic law on protection of private information protection.
