April 30, 2000CommerceNet Singapore was invited to address a gathering of local entrepreneurs on 29 April 2000 at the Grassroots Club at Ang Mo Kio.
At the talk, CommerceNet CEO, Mr. Jeh Shyan Wong urged the audience to build businesses that have healthy and sustainable multiple revenue streams. The ability to work out viable business models and successfully implementing these models within very short timeframe is becoming very crucial. Priority should be within areas of their current business expertise. Mr. Wong emphasised that they should be clear in their focus and mask out all the unnecessary noise generated by the dot.com hype.
Speaking in Mandarin to approximately 100 audience, Mr. Jeh Shyan Wong brought the audience in sync with the latest development in electronic commerce market size and the emerging challenges to existing businesses. He outlines the general criteria for valuation of Internet companies and postulate the general directions the new economy is rapidly unveiling. The ability to port current businesses into complimentary online presence would hedge the participants from the danger of putting too much weight online alone. Having both physical and web based presence may also require changes to the management style.
Also speaking at the event are representatives from Skymedia and Infocomm Development Authority (IDA). Skymedia’s representative spoke on how to design internet web-sites while IDA talks on the grants available for those who intend to bring their businesses online
