September 12, 2003Singapore, 3 September 2003 – The inaugural E-Global Singapore 2003 Awards received close to 50 submissions within the short span of 6 weeks since its launch on 16 July 2003. At the Gala Cocktail Nite graced by Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, 5 awards winners and 13 merit winners were presented with this inaugural award.
Participation for this award, which recognised budding innovators and entrepreneurs, came from a wide spectrum of industries including security, F&B, wellness, education, e-services solutions, consultancy and training.
According to Mr Eugene Wong, President, IdEA (Innovation and Entrepreneurs Association), “Together with our partners, we are very encouraged by the response and interest to this award. It certainly reaffirms our objectives of encouraging entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs to try regardless of their turnover or achievements.”
From family business, consultants to CEOs of enterprises, the E-Global Singapore 2003 Award demonstrated that the spirit of innovation can stem from different walks of life and from any age group.
“IdEA exemplifies what we want to see more of in Singapore – a get up and go spirit. I have no doubts that IdEA’s E-Global awards would inspire others to take the road less traveled,” said Minister of State (Foreign Affairs & Trade and Industry), Mr Raymond Lim.
Continued Mr Lim, “The nominees and winners of the inaugural E-Global Singapore 2003 Awards are all to be congratulated. I am confident that these winners will continue to make their mark in their respective fields. In winning this award, I hope that it will help to spur them on to greater heights and to encourage them to champion the cause for entrepreneurship in Singapore.”
The coming together of seven different organizations to organize and promote this award to create a more vibrant innovative and entrepreneurial culture in Singapore has also garnered industry interest. IdEA has received interest from other private sector organizations, which are keen to participate and lend support to the award next year.
Said Mr Wong Jeh Shyan, CEO of CommerceNet Singapore, “It is heartening to see industry coming forth to join us in opening the path for these promising companies and individuals. I am sure with all the encouragement, our winners will eventually be recognized as a successful company themselves one day.”
The industry can look forward to E-Global Singapore 2004 Awards already scheduled to be held from 1 March 2004 to 31 May 2004. The winners will be unveiled in mid June 2004.
