February 7, 2002CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) and Drake Training organised a Breakfast Forum on Tuesday, 5 Feb 2002 at the Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore. The theme for the Forum was “Turning Pink Slips Green². About 60 participants attended the forum.
The challenge of continuously upgrading one’s skills is not confined to those who work in the infocommunications sector. It is equally crucial for all individuals, whether they work or not, to pursue life-long learning.
After all, the evolution onto the e-economy or knowledge economy will cut across all sectors of society. Presently, IT Training is set to be of utmost importance to bridge the unemployed to finding meaningful employment.
Mr. Tan Seck Cheong, Business Development Manager at Drake Training spoke on “TRAINING: The Key to Employability in the Knowledge Economy”. The next speaker, Mr. Andrew Yap Lip Sin, a senior lawyer who is also the Managing Director of Goodwins Law Corporation and a Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public spoke on “The Legal Aspects of Retrenchment”. Mr Yap discussed the general overview of Employment law in Singapore and the Employment Act, Cap. 91. He spoke on the importance of contracts of service: the interpretation of its terms and conditions.
