April 15, 2000Online business requires trust. Trust, especially online, needs clear guidelines, management of expectations, as well as adequate protection of intellectual property rights. At a seminar organised by CommerceNet at the Inter-Continental Hotel on 14 April 2000, participants were exposed to three different speakers on various issues on building trust online.
Mr. Loh Kok Choy from Retail Promotion Centre (RPC) presented the accreditation scheme in which ‘website trustmark’ is used to identify reliable online businesses. The pilot project jointly implemented by CommerceNet Singapore, Consumer Association of Singapore and RPC has successfully been completed. Implementation details were shared with the audience, including the most common types of complaints, expectations and non-fulfillment’s.
Mr. Michael Ng from i-DNS.net International Pte. Ltd. covers intellectual property rights protection, trademark protections in a global, borderless and multi-lingual environment. Drawing from real-life experience gained from I-DNS.net operations in registering multi-lingual domain names, Mr. Ng outlines the problems that corporations are most likely to face in their protection of the company names in a global environment.
Mr. John Bauer from Visa International shares his view and will provide practical examples of what consumers around the world are asking for and their expectations of a trusted Web sites.
Participants are given a free copy of risk administration manual each, titled “Electronic Commerce Risk Management – Merchant Best Practices”.
