October 18, 2001CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) organised an eSecurity Seminar. Some of the best eSecurity Speakers in Singapore spoke on various issues of eSecurity. Among the topics presented are “Seamless & Secure Payment for the Physical & Virtual Worlds”, “Secure PKI and CA Solutions” and “Trust and Confidence with Escrow Payment Service to DRIVE Internet/eCommerce transactions – SafeEX Global”.
The eSecurity and ePayment Seminar is structured into three different sections with three speakers. Mr. Lim Khee Ming, Deputy General Manager & Group Head (Technology), Network for Electronic Transfers (S) Pte Ltd, spoke on “Seamless & Secure Payment for the Physical & Virtual Worlds”. Mr Lim has extensive experience in IT strategy formulation, IT architecture design, technology management, large scale systems development and project management. As the Head of Technology Group in NETS, Mr Lim charts the direction of the development of new payment services, products and infrastructure.. His presentation covered new payment services that could be used in both the physical and virtual world. One such service involves the use of pre-paid wallets and mobile phones.”
The second speaker was Mr. Foo Jong Ai, Chief Executive Officer, Netrust Pte Ltd. Mr. Foo discussed about “Secure PKI and CA Solutions”. In this position, Mr Foo identifies the growth opportunities for Netrust, formulates business direction and seeks to develop security products and services that enhance trust in on-line transactions. This presentation aimed to provide some basis for CA and PKI, and provide examples of G2B and B2B applications that are already PKI-enabled. In addition to business use, there are compelling reasons for the deployment of digital certificates within any corporation. Mr Foo later did a presentation of the security solutions that are PKI-ready, including secure e-mail, secure teleworking and desktop security.
The final speaker Mr. Oon Tik Lee, Chief Operating Officer, Safe-EX, Stratech Systems Limited talked about “Trust and Confidence with Escrow Payment Service to DRIVE Internet/eCommerce transactions”. Mr Oon had been in the financial and security industry from 1981 to 1994 with IBM, playing a key role in computerization project of the SGX whilst there. He later joined Lotus Services Singapore in 1997 as the Country Director focusing on the financial sector before joining NCS in 1999 as the General Manager of the Securities and Finance Industry. According to Mr Oon, escrow payment service provides a layer of trust above the ‘PKI’ trust level to enable secure transactions across the internet. It is envisaged that eCommerce across the Internet will become more pervasive with increasing PC penetration and affordability to the diverse Asia Pacific countries in the coming years. As such, cross border escrow payment service will be a necessary and important service. SafeEX Global Escrow Payment Service was officially launched in June 19, 2001. Its vision is to be the premium Escrow Payment Service provider in Asia Pacific. The launch of this service was with an initiative to bring ‘trust’ above the physical trust layer to make Singapore a more secure eCommerce Hub.
