[ 18 April 2000 ] CommerceNet Asia Meeting in Tokyo

A gathering of CommerceNet Asia’s constituents organisations in Tokyo on 17 and 18 April 2000 brought together global partners from CommerceNet Japan, CommerceNet Korea, CommerceNet Taiwan, CommerceNet China, CommerceNet US and CommerceNet Singapore. The Asia meeting was held at Foliage Seminar House, an up-market private seminar facility owned by Mitsubishi Corporation for Human Resources training.

CommerceNet US unveils a vision to re-organisation of CommerceNet into three distinct sub-sectors, being the web, the lab and venture. CommerceNet Taiwan presents the development of XR2 project. XR2 is an acronym for XML Repository project. CommerceNet Singapore and CommerceNet Japan are especially keen on the project. CommerceNet Japan proposes a further Pan-Asian supply-chain survey. CommerceNet Korea will liaise with the global partners directly on a cybermall cooperation framework.

Delegates were also briefed on the outcome of a pilot programme on a regional trust mark launched in Singapore. CommerceNet Singapore was entrusted the role of spearheading an Asian trust mark pilot programme. CommerceNet Singapore invites other global partners to participate meaningfully in the project. CommerceNet China had shown very keen interest while CommerceNet Taiwan will enter into further discussion with CommerceNet Singapore.

The meeting was sealed with a traditional boat trip into Tokyo Bay. The delegates will meet again in Taiwan next.
