October 23, 2000CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) spoke at International Symposium on Protection of Personal Information at Sasakawa Hall, Tokyo. Organised by Japan Information Processing Development Centre (JIPDEC), the event attracted more than 1000 registrants.
Mr. Jeh Shyan Wong, the CEO of CNSG spoke on the advent of PrivacyTrust as the core element in CommerceTrust projects, and the practical issues relating to the development and implementation of protection of personal information framework in Singapore and neighbouring countries. The promotion of personal data protection and consumer protection framework will increasingly become more important in the coming years. He stressed that increased levels of transparencies in business practices are essential towards promoting global trade.
Other speakers at the symposium in Tokyo are Prof. Masao Horibe from Chuo University, Ms. Barbara Wellbery from US Department of Commerce, Prof. Emeritus Alan Westin from Colombia University, Westin, Mr. Gary Laden from BBBOnLine Privacy Seal Program, Mr. Mitsugu Sekimoto from Secretariat of Privacy Mark System, JIPDEC.
The symposium provides valuable insights into the past developments, historical background, and recent state of personal information protection in Japan and other countries including the developments in Safe Harbor Agreement between Europe and the US.
