CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) and iDA organised a Breakfast Forum on Thursday, 21 March 2002 at the Traders Hotel, Singapore. The theme for the Forum was “Getting the Government to Foot Your Staff Cost. About 50 participants attended the forum.
The mission of the Manpower Development Division of iDA Singapore is to develop infocomm manpower and an infocomm-savvy workforce from the pre-employment stage to the in-employment stage to ensure that there is a constant pool of skilled infocomm manpower to sustain Singapore’s competitive edge in the international arena.
The Asian Business Fellowship Programme (ABF) was initiated to develop a pool of talent with in-depth knowledge of doing business in China and the Asian region, by supporting Singapore-based enterprises (SBEs) in training fresh graduates or mid-level/specialist skill executives in these countries.
Dr Kaizad Heerjee Assistant Chief Executive, Online Development, iDA Singapore welcomed participants and gave the keynote address. Ms Anthea Tan, Senior Manager, Workforce Training, Manpower Development Division, Online Development Group,Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (iDA Singapore) was the first speaker and she spoke on Infocomm Training Framework (iTF) programme. The Infocomm Training Framework (ITF) provides focus for the public, private and people sector on the infocomm training needs of the different segments of the Singapore population. It comprises five levels (Level 1 – Level 5) of infocomm training programmes to meet Singaporeans’ specific needs in infocomm skills. From promoting an e-lifestyle to workforce training to capability development, the framework focuses on different levels of infocomm competency to enhance quality of life and to improve employability.
The next speaker, Ms Kui Lai Fong, Senior Manager of the Manpower Development Division, Online Development Group, iDA Singapore spoke on the Asia Business Fellowship and infocomm Training Attachment (ABF and iTA) scheme. Ms Kui stated that the objective of this scheme was to provide successful applicants under the iTA Scheme with opportunities to train with selected organizations in the Infocomm industry in the areas of hot and emerging technologies, and thereby increase the pool of available manpower possessing skills and expertise in such technologies to service the Infocomm industry in Singapore.
The last speaker, Ms Chan Seow Yang, Senior Manager, Employment Services, Manpower Deployment Department, Ministry of Manpower spoke on the People for Job Programme (PJP).
